What Customers Say About Garmin nuvi 200 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator:

I've discovered this is not the case. It is current on everything save the maps.A few months ago it started to take a few minutes before finding the satellites. but the wrong neighborhood. I'd like the screen to go immediately to the map screen, not the menu screen. I also plugged it into the computer for updates as well. Also, I do geocache and have added some to the favorites and it's filled up the folder.

The accuracy of the GPS varies. It is faster, tells me which direction I am facing, and has regularly updated maps with satellite view. I was moving to a POI and had the route and then it blinked onto a different map area. Since it was winter I assumed that it was cloud or tree cover. I own a couple of GPS and have used civilian and military models alike. The interface is just too clunky, not streamlined, and needs some innovative thinking.I've tried going to the Garmin website to submit this review but the website always gives me an error or doesn't load. Google Maps on my iPhone 3GS works better than this GPS does now. I just kept driving, ignoring the error, and then after I 'missed my turn' into a street that wasn't there, it blinked and went back to the section of the map that I really was in.

not a map issue. I purchased this as a basic GPS need. It got me near where I wanted to go. I want to get in my truck and go.

Could use a different turn-by-turn view where it lists the first three or four turns coming up on the right hand side of the screen. I understand the desire to make money selling $70 maps every now and then. It occurs every time I turn on the vehicle now and it has taken up to twenty minutes for it to find the satellites. I bought a Magellan and hated it and went back to Garmin.

Most of the time it takes ten minutes.Annoyances. I am also very good at using map and compass. This GPS was okay in the first year. Note. I am in the Oregon National Guard infantry and a hiker and a geocacher. I understand that there is this thing called drift in a GPS, but I also understand that something is off when I am driving at 30MPH on a street and it tells me to turn right 100' feet after I've passed the turn yet showing me that I'm arriving at the turn on the map. But then again we use a lot of Department of Defense satellites, there are no real-time traffic updates on this model, and I just don't see why there is this need to do so.

When it came time to get a car model I never considered another brand. Someone gets into a truck with me, I turn on the GPS and go to favorites and they see various locations listed that bring up questions, such as 'cancer clinic' or 'therapy'. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. Context is important in maps.I wish there were more folders than just favorite. When navigating a freeway system in an urban area with lots of merge lanes I don't want to hear the voice telling me to turn left but want to see the bigger picture of the two four-way intersections I'm coming to and where I've got to be. The GPS has put me in neighborhoods that were not there.

However I am so disappointed and dissatisfied with this model that I would seriously look into another brand. There isn't an option that I can find to change this anywhere. Then a few months ago it started to download some updates when I turned my truck on. I used to be a huge Garmin guy, carried a model in Iraq that worked better than our military models. So with all of this I don't see why Garmin wants to charge me for map updates. The start up screen. Its a minor thing but it does get old after a while. They keypad is not QWERTY and because of this I am much slower in typing than I normally am.

Would rather have a favorites category to be able to turn on and off. A shame too since there a lot of people locally that work for Garmin.

They don't make this particular model anymore, but I believe the new version is the Nuvi 205 and isn't much different. Understanding that, I would recommend this unit to anyone. It will show me driving in an open space though I'm on a paved street with houses all around. You can upload cooler vehicles, etc. I've had this unit for over a year, maybe close to two now, I'm not really sure. Surprisingly, it often does well in rural areas in the Colorado mountains where I travel frequently. I live in the Denver metro area where I use it primarily, but I've also taken it with me on business trips to Los Angeles, Portland, Pheonix and Buffalo and it worked perfectly in all those cities.

Sometimes even 4WD roads actually display on this thing. Conversely, there have been some instances where the maps are not updated in suburban areas in the Denver metro area and won't show neighborhoods that have existed for over 5 years. First of all, understand this is the entry level model in the product line. I do just fine with "Turn right in.5 miles" and the display shows the street name that I'm to turn on. Haven't had a problem with that once so far. which are free on the Garmin web site, but you have to pay for map updates which I have not done. It's nice to find a product that actually lives up to the company's promises for a change. That alone should drive you to buying a Garmin unit that you can take with you when you're in other vehicles etc.

I've used many vehicle GPS systems in rental cars, etc, that cost much more and this unit is at worst better than those. For the price, I've found this simple GPS unit to be great and I highly recommend it. This is rare though. While the spoken directions don't include the actual street names, I really don't understand why this is a problem for so many people. If you're buying a new car and considering the $1000 GPS unit the dealers shove at you, ask them this "How much do the map updates cost.". That seems to be extremely rare anymore.

Product was received as advertised. Easy to use with good directions. Can be updated easily thru internet connection.

I got a great deal on this garmin and I love it. Could not be more pleased.

and there were Nor'Easters on two days so we could not see the exit signs. I was surpised at how easy it is to use the Garmin. It proved its worth last weekwhen we had a lot of traveling from one location to another on Long Island N.Y. The Garmin made it very easy to know when we coming up to the exist and especially when to stay to the left or right lanes.Ocasionally it would get confused and give us invalid directions. Yesterday when traveling from my house to my cousin's house in Eastern Mass., at distance of 31 miles, the GPS could not get the satellite and thought that we were still in the Bronx, N.Y.
